Sculpture Emapuu (“Mother Tree”)

Rising in the heart of Tõrva, the Emapuu (“Mother Tree”) is a powerful and symbolic sculpture marking the gateway to Mulgimaa and the central point of this resort town. Based on an idea by Jaanis Ilves, the artwork was created by Latvian sculptor Agnese Rudzite-Kirillova, who brought to life a striking metal tree formed from 10,500 meters of steel rods. The tree’s trunk and branches represent vitality, strength, and maternal endurance. With a total height of 8.5 meters including its base, the sculpture is both impressive in scale and rich in meaning. As part of the Mulgimaa Väravad (“Gates of Mulgimaa”) project, it highlights the region’s identity through distinctive landmarks.

Emapuu is a place to pause—feel the passage of time, reflect on deeper meaning, and enjoy a captivating visual experience.
